Try to put a space in between the letters and the digits. If it still doesn't validate then unfortunately regulations force us to verify the EU VAT number you entered in a service of the EU. If that service is not able to approve the VAT number you entered, then the tax authorities instruct us to charge the VAT.

The VAT number is checked and verified against a service from the EU. Our e-commerce system is implemented in such a way that it will always follow the response from that service (as we have to). If the input is not accepted as a valid VAT number, I would advise you to leave the VAT number blank. The system will then use the fallback scenario, which is to apply 21% VAT.

If, and if so how much, VAT applies on the order is based upon a set of rules that is derived/determined by the ecommerce system. Its based on the country you live in and (in some cases) dependent upon the VAT number you add (and whether the EU VAT validation service is able to verify that number is correct, which is something we don't control).

If you order from a country outside the EU the purchases then your purchase will be exempt from VAT (per the rules of the tax authorities that apply). So for example if you order from the US or Canada, it will be exempt from VAT. Note that the VAT still could show up in the ecommerce pages if you haven't set or specified the country in the checkout step. So in that case please proceed to the checkout page, and after you select your country you will notice that the VAT amount will update accordingly.

If you order from a country inside the EU but outside NL then the purchases could have a 0% VAT (VAT Reverse Charge / BTW VERLEGD"), or 21%. Which of the two options applies is based upon the regulations of the tax authorities (this depends on the country you select, and its also dependent upon the EU VAT number of your company, and whether that number can, or cannot, be validated by the system).

If you order from NL the purchase will always have 21% VAT (according to the rules defined by the tax authorities).

So summarized; the cart and checkout page will show the prices based upon the country you select. If the country is not yet selected, it will pick a default, and that one assumes the VAT will apply). The moment you pick the actual country in the checkout page, the actual (final) VAT will be updated according to the rules of the tax authorities. Simply enter the information that are requested, and the system will apply the correct VAT rules.

The VAT number is checked and validated by external system, which we can't control. If the system cannot verify the VAT number it means you will be charged for VAT (for EU countries).
